Take two lovers and two who are unloved; send them to a wood where fairies dispense love potions and cast mischievous spells; stir in a comic crew of workmen with theatrical ambitions. The resultant misunderstandings and confusions end in harmony, in the most perfect and good-humoured romantic comedy ever written.
Young lovers. An oppressive father. A forced marriage. A troupe of players.
Add into this mixture an enchanted forest, a fairy King and Queen and a mischievous sprite and you have a recipe for a comedy so charming, so hilarious and utterly enchanting that it has been delighting audiences for hundreds of years!
