Carry on... Loving?
Filming is not as glamorous as it's cracked up to be. It's a bit of a miserable business if your caravan leaks, your co-star's a manic depressive, and those younger women aren't so young any more.
Carrying on in the great tradition of British comedy, Terry Johnson's play takes some familiar faces and gets a bit familiar with them. It premièred at the Royal National Theatre, London, in 1998 starring Geoffrey Hutchings as Sid, Adam Godley as Kenneth and Samantha Spiro as Barbara and was produced on TV under the title Cor Blimey!
The play is about the off-screen love affair between Carry on film stalwarts, Barbara Windsor and Sid James. The comedy also reveals that the filming of the Carry on series was a less than glamorous affair, characterised by leaking caravans, inadequate
pay-cheques and argumentative co-stars.
